Sweet Sophie Girl

Sadly, we found out Monday that Sophie has cancer. Rob took her for her yearly checkup and the worst case scenario came true! With treatment she has about 7 and a half months to live! This was devastating news for us. We got Sophie one month after we moved into our house, she was 6 weeks old and she has truly grown up with us! She was our baby and she completes our family. Jack has such a deep love for her. Whenever were out and he is getting tired he always says he wants to go home and see Sophie girl. He lays on her, Sophie sleeps with Jack on his bed and i always find Jack just petting her and hugging her. The thought of telling Jack breaks my heart! I know he will be so sad without her and I can't imagine how he will take it. He is so young and I never imagined we would have to go through this. I never want my children to be sad and unfortunately there is nothing i can do. We haven't told him and I keep reading conflicting things on the Internet on how to tell small children. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear! So for now we are trying to enjoy everyday with her! Our goal is for her to make it to her 5th birthday in May...we would love to have a big party. I love Sophie so much, she is kind, sweet and soooo great with Jack and Zoe. I am so saddened by the news and i hope she will stay with us for as long as she can! I love you sweet girl!

  1. These photos truly capture the spirit of Sophie Girl. She is a precious part of our family and as I said last night, we are blessed to have her in our lives for however long she can be with us. Dad and I refer to her as our Grand Dog and we love her dearly. And, of course, she is Lizzee's best friend. We are keeping good thoughts for our girl. Love you, Mom xoxoxo

  6. oh no! I remember that she was a fairly new addition to your family when I was student teaching in your classroom back in the day. I remember you telling me and your students stories about her. I am so sad to hear the news. Especially because I got my dogs around the same time you did and they are turning 5 this year as well. I know how a dog can be like a family member.
